4 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Buying Someone Jewellery

Whether it's your best friend's birthday or a gift for a special person, buying jewellery can be a difficult task. There are several things to consider before clicking "Add to Cart" and we're here to help! Here are four questions you should ask yourself before buying jewellery for someone else.

1. What do they usually wear?

Does the person you're buying for have a simple, modern style or can you usually spot them in something bold and bright? Chances are your minimalist friend won't dig something overly blingy and bright, but your fashionista gal pal might. Think about your friend wearing the piece - if it doesn't fit them, don't buy it.

2. Do they like silver or gold more?

This can be a tough one. There's no rule that determines whether a person will like silver or gold more - bummer - but you can usually pick up hints from their existing accessory choices. What colour is their wedding band? What colour of earrings do they usually wear? The great thing about metallics like silver and gold is that they really do go with anything so your choice between the two will likely still be a great one even if it's not their normal shade.

3. What occasion are you buying for?

There are many reasons why you may be buying jewellery for someone: birthday, bridesmaid gift, friendship, or just because. Whatever the occasion, consider what would make a great gift at that event. If it's around the holidays, maybe something a bit more festive and shiny would be nice. If it's a summer birthday, something simple and light-weight makes wearing the piece effortless right away.

4. Are they sensitive to certain materials?

Some people can only wear real gold and silver jewellery because of skin sensitivity. There are several materials in non-precious metals which can often cause rashes and irritations. If you know that the person you're buying for has sensitive skin and doesn't do well with anything that's not real, don't buy them costume or fashion jewellery.

Choosing jewellery for someone can be a difficult task - though it can also be a lot of fun! Keep the person you're buying for in mind and go with what your heart says. Chances are they'll be so pleased with the thoughtfulness of your gift they'll love it no matter what!
